For Immediate Release PR Contact: Pat Kremer/Nancy O'Shea 312-665-7100 The Field Museum Digs Deep for Underground Discovery Days CHICAGO – The Field Museum will host Underground Discovery Days beginning Wednesday, February 18 through Saturday, February 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Museum’s Stanley Field Hall. Families are invited to come out and experience exciting theatre performances and interact with live insects. The event is free with Museum admission.  Each day at 12 p.m., Child’s Play Touring Theatre, will present a 30-minute performance of short stories and plays written by children. Most of the plays revolve around underground themes. After the performances, children will have the chance to touch live bugs! From millipedes to Madagascar hissing cockroaches, scientists will be on-hand to show children the living creepy-crawlies up close. There also will be specimens of insects and mammals from around the world including–butterflies, beetles, badgers, shrews and voles.  Artist Peggy Macnamara will sketch insects in Stanley Field Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children also will have the chance to draw bugs and learn how to compare different types of soil. Families will meet scientists from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and learn more about the fascinating world beneath our feet. The Field Museum is located at 1400 S. Lake Shore Drive, on CTA bus lines #6, #12, and #146, and close to other routes and the Metra electric and South Shore lines.
