Water photo captions

Water Planet
Actual moving images of Earth from space are projected on a seven-foot diameter globe.  “Science on a Sphere” is one of the highlights of Water at The Field Museum. Visitors observe breathtaking views of our blue planet and gain a deeper appreciation of water as a world-shaping force as well as our most precious resource.

Polar Bear
Visitors to Water at The Field Museum can discover how rising global temperatures and melting Arctic ice are making life difficult for the world’s population of polar bears.

Chicago Crib
Lake Michigan is home to several water intake cribs.  This is the entry point for a giant tunnel that conveys water to the world’s largest conventional water purification plant, located in Chicago.  This is how millions of gallons of lake water are treated, providing water for millions of Illinois residents.
